NEW Sea Life Aquarium Opening in Michigan!

I am pretty excited about this! There is a new Sea Life Aquarium opening in Auburn Hills, Michigan (at Great Lakes Crossing) on January 29, 2015! It’s about an hour drive from Sarnia as opposed to the 3 hours it takes to get to Toronto’s Ripley’s Aquarium making for a pretty good day trip 🙂

SEA LIFE Michigan Aquarium will transport you into the amazing underwater world. Come nose to nose with sharks and prepare for astonishingly close views of everything from humble sea stars and seahorses to graceful rays. To get any closer you’d have to get wet!

– Amazing underwater Ocean Tunnel
– Encounter more than 5,000 sea creatures
– Hold a crab or touch a sea star in our Touchpool Experience
– Watch our fun talks and feed shows throughout the day

YAY! I can’t wait to take my wee ones!

Just for Laughs

Hello everyone!

I hope you’re all having a great weekend so far. I know we are! Today we went to a super fun birthday party at the Corunna Fire Hall. The kids had an absolute blast running around, meeting Sparky the Fire Dog and climbing in all the firetrucks! Tomorrow we are going to take the kiddos out to see Little Ray’s Reptile Zoo at the Holiday Inn! We went to this last year and my son LOVED it. Looking forward to seeing the baby cougar this year! Everyone I know who went today said she is super cute. Plus, I always enjoy a little wildlife education 🙂

Anyways, that’s it for now… I leave you with a little something that makes me laugh every single time I see it!

Kid Friendly No Bake Paleo “Donuts”

Anyone who knows me well, knows I have had a great deal of weight loss success by following a paleo diet. So, I am always looking for simple whole food snacks and treats that my kids and I can both enjoy. We all love dates and coconut around here and I cannot believe I did not think of this recipe myself!
This No Bake Coconut and Date Balls recipe is by Jennifer Cheung for Kidspot.com.  I call them Paleo “Donuts” and they are YUM! I like to add a little cacao powder to make them more like chocolate Timbits. You can see here for the best donut options.
Prep Time:
10 minsCook Time:
0 minsIngredients:
3 cups desiccated coconut
2 cups (200g) pitted dates
Method:
Step 1. Place 2 cups of coconut and the dates into a blender or food processor.

Step 2. Process on high speed for 3-4 minutes, pausing to scrape down sides as needed.

Step 3. Remove from processor and roll teaspoon-sized balls. Roll in remaining 1 cup of coconut.

Step 4. Pack in portions for snacks, to put in lunch boxes and keep on hand to satisfy a sweet tooth in a healthy way.

The date do have a high sugar content so don’t eat too many!
