Indoor Fun: Valentine’s Day Decorations For Toddlers

It is SOOOOOOOO COLD outside! Since we’ve been cooped up in the house more than usual this week, I have decided that we should kill two birds with one stone and do lots of toddler friendly craft time to get head start on some Valentine’s Day decorations and gifts! Here is what we are going to try out:

1) Handprint Valentine’s Day Craft: I am going to laminate these to make DIY Kitchen Placemats for the family!

2) Crystal Hearts Valentine’s Science Experiment from Little Bins for Little Hands: These looks COOL. I think my 3 year old will be totally fascinated! Plus, they will look pretty tied with ribbon and hanging down from my dining room chandelier.

3) LOVE Handprint and Footprints Sign: Put it in a nice frame and this would be a really special decoration to get out every year.

4) Tissue Paper Stained Glass Window: I love the looks of this! My 3 year old is obsessed with scissors (don’t worry, we use the My First Crayola Safety Scissors)
so I think he will like to try and help cut out the hearts.

5)  Valentine Door Hanger: I am going to try this one on my own. This will be a nice surprise for the kids to find hanging on their doors! I will put some special treats and a card in them.

New Tot Dance Class @ Fitness Farm Mooretown

476190_367882049996708_1637384021_oFitness Farm is offering Tot’s Dance Classes by Lacy again! The session before Christmas was a great success. The kids loved it!  It is not super structured like some of the dance classes you can do in Sarnia but we felt kids at that age (3-6) don’t need a super structured class. They can have fun dancing and be able to make up their own moves. Lacy will do action songs like Head and Shoulders as well as some dances with her own choreography. She also teaches them to express themselves and do their own dance moves. It is a great way to introduce dance, have fun, and get active with other 3 -6 year olds!

Classes are 5:30 pm – 6:00 pm either Tuesdays or Thursdays. The class will focus on action songs like Head and Shoulders, the Hokey Pokey etc. as well as have a mixture of basic choreography by Lacy.

The next session will start the week of January 12th and run for 8 weeks . The session costs $60. For more information or to contact Lacy please go to Facebook and join the group Tot’s Dance at the Fitness Farm in Mooretown or leave a message Calla Nicol.

Sarnia and Area School Bus Info

The roads are awful in some parts of the city and based on the freezing forecast for the next few days doesn’t look like they are going to get much better.

I saw a lot of chatter on various Facebook posts and groups this morning about the school buses. There were people trying to figure out what was going on with buses and I saw a lot of parents trying to be helpful and providing updates as to what buses were running late. Awesome! There were a few parents not wanting to send their kids to school because they thought the roads were too icy. I was totally shocked by just how rude some of the comments were in regards to this! Not awesome.

While I decided not to engage in all the Facebook nonsense, here is my opinion on it: If a mom is worried that a school bus is not a safe way to transport her child, she has the choice to either drive the kid herself, keep the kid home, or go against her gut and load him onto the bus. That goes for dads, too! Every parent is entitled to make their own decisions regarding their children’s safety. They should not be chastised or teased or made to feel like they are being “stupid” because their decisions may not be the same as someone else’s.

The best thing you can do is be aware of the weather and road conditions and make informed decsions. Here is where you can find school bus info for Sarnia-Lambton and Chatham-Kent:

1) schoolbusinfo.com – this covers all school boards.

2) Follow Lambton-CK Bus info on  Twitter or Facebook

3) Listen to 99.9 Fox FM or K106.3, check their websites or follow them Facebook and Twitter
